Fall Leaf Clean-up
Frequently Asked Questions
Yard Waste Collection
We pick up any and all natural yard waste, including grass, leaves, tree limbs, flowers, garden plants, walnuts, apples, Christmas trees, and more.
We don’t pick up trash, construction material, dead animals, animal feces, fireplace ash, or lumber, though, so please don’t bag up those things with your yard waste.
You can either use leaf and lawn paper bags from your local hardware store or from Amazon*, or if you have sticks and brush that doesn’t fit well into a bag, you can bundle brush using rope or twine. Please be sure that any brush you bundle is tied into no more than 18″ x 36″ sized bundles.
We also accept yard waste bundled in small cardboard boxes, but we ask that you clearly write YARD WASTE on the side of the box so we know to pick it up.
After you sign up for service, we will email you a confirmation message with your yard waste collection date.
An item is either a single leaf and lawn paper bag (available at your local hardware store or on Amazon*) OR a 18″ x 36″ bundle of brush.
Please be sure each item weighs under 50 lb so we can pick it up for you.
Unfortunately, to stick to our schedule and best serve all our customers, we cannot come back to pick up yard waste if you forget to put it out on your scheduled day.
Bags & Bundles
We recommend using the paper leaf and lawn bags sold at your local hardware store. You can also buy bags on Amazon here*.
Paper bags can be folded over at the top and taped with masking tape. Please don’t use plastic or duct tape since they’re not biodegradable. While the bags hold up very well, be careful when dragging if the bottoms are wet so they don’t tear.
The weight limit is 50 pounds per bag or bundle.
Sticks and tree limbs can be bundled in 18″ x 36″ bundles and tied with rope or twine, or you can put them in a paper bag or small cardboard box. Individual limb diameters should be no larger than 4 inches inside the bundle. Each bag or bundle is considered one item toward your weekly pickup limit.
To protect your paper bags, store them in a dry place until the day of pickup and limit the amount of yard waste in the bag if the contents are moist. Usually, bags will not fall apart while waiting to be picked up unless left in a low water area.
We collect yard waste in paper bags for a few reasons. First, paper bags are more eco-friendly since they are biodegradable and can be turned into compost along with yard waste.
Also, paper bags can hold more yard waste than a standard size bin, which means you can dispose of more yard waste at a time.
Finally, using paper bags is less costly for you since we do not have to provide or maintain bins, which helps keep our costs low and allows us to provide an affordable service to our customers.
Account Management
If you sign up for a weekly collection plan, your contract starts on the day we receive payment and continues for one year. If you sign up for one-time collection, your service covers the single pickup you paid for.
Yes, we do! To show our appreciation for your referrals, we will extend your service for one month for free for each friend you refer. Simply have your friend mention your name when they call our office to sign up for service.
Unfortunately, sharing is not allowed in our programs. Program pricing is based on one household’s use over the course of the year. This policy is in place to ensure that our pricing remains affordable for all our customers.
If we suspect that you are sharing the program, your service will be canceled, and no refund will be issued.
Our drivers will leave an orange sticker on your bag if we could not pick it up due to a problem with the way it was packaged. If there is no sticker, please contact the office for more information. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before calling the office:
- Were the bags out by 7:00 a.m.?
- Were the bags at the curb nearest your driveway? Were they blocked by any cars, bushes, etc.?
- Can they easily be seen from either direction?
- Do the bags contain any items that are not considered yard waste?
- Are the bags less than 50 pounds?
- Are you over your weekly limit?
If you don’t see an orange sticker on your bags, please call or email our office within 24 hours of your missed pickup, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
If you know the program that you would like to change to, you can mail in a check or call our office at (816) 761-8300 to change your plan.
If you need more information before making a decision, you can contact our office or refer to our Weekly Collection page for more information.
Your service is paid annually, so if you want to upgrade during the year, it is possible to do so. However, we cannot downgrade to another program or cancel your service until the end of the year.
No worries! As a weekly pickup customer, you have the option to purchase Over Limit Stickers through our Shop. These stickers can be attached to any extra bags or bundles, even if they exceed your weekly plan allowance. Simply purchase the stickers and attach them to your extra bags or bundles. We will pick them up for you without any issues.
However, please note that the Over Limit Stickers are intended for use by customers who are on a weekly plan only. Please do not use them to recycle yard waste for other households. Our capacity is limited, and we want to ensure that we can serve our weekly plan customers to the best of our ability.
You can purchase additional Over Limit Stickers online in our Shop or by mailing a check for $20, which pays for 10 stickers. Please note that the stickers are valid for the duration of your annual plan and are non-refundable if unused.
Over Limit Stickers do not expire, but your account must be current for you to use them. If your account has expired, we will not pick up bags, even if they have Over Limit stickers attached to them.
No, all our programs are non-refundable. We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep our costs low and our service affordable. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
Service Availability
Unfortunately, we cannot provide credit for vacation holds since our yard waste programs are based on a full year of service.
While we’d love to help with everything, we cannot pick up entire trees or bundles larger than 18×36 inches, as we are not a tree service. Individual limb diameters should be no larger than 4 inches inside the bundle.
During Christmas time, we are happy to pick up your Christmas tree, but if the tree is over 6 ft, we kindly ask that you cut it in half. Our trucks are not designed to pick up items larger than those stated in the guidelines.
